An advertising authority troubles William Hill
A member of the public complains about two advertisements
William Hill plc, the online and land gambling group, has had a run-in with the Advertising Standards Authority of the UK over two ads in a newspaper that date back to Feb and Feb in The Daily Mirror and the Racing Post.
It was discovered by the Authority that the odds in question were misleading, and it ordered the gambling group to run the material once more.
The small print claiming "prices correct at 5am yesterday" and the disclaimer "prices are subject to fluctuation" proved not to be sufficient enough to allow the company to get off the hook after a member of the public made a complaint.
The person challenged the claims “4/1 THE NEW ONE TO WIN THE JOHN SMITH’S AINTREE HURDLE” and “6/1 SIR DES CHAMPS TO WIN THE CHELTENHAM GOLD CUP”, as being misleading and that it could be substantiated, because he learned that the odds in question were made available for a very limited period of time.
