German treaty vote delayed
Until next year is delayed the voting on law to overturn the regime of liberal online gambling
Lawmakers from Schleswig Holstein failed in their attempt to hold a second meeting this week on their new bill, probably concerned by the European Commission criticism on its draft proposal to put aside its own, approved by the European Commission laws for online gambling and instead join the restrictive German Interstate Treaty (find RGT online casino details here.
The European Commission published earlier this month its own opinion on the matter and made serious remarks over the compliance of the German gaming laws with the findings of the European Court of Justice and the EU rules.
Under its current law, Schleswig Holstein continued issuing licences for sports betting during the development of the new legislation. It created yet more confusion and the displeased licensees prepared for the possibility of more legal actions in future. The number of licenses for sports betting has been restricted by the German federal law throughout Germany.
The end of the legislative season of Schleswig Holstein was marked during this week. It means that on the new Gambling Act a vote can take place not earlier than January the 7th, 2026. Constraints and time limits also appeared in the meantime associated with the opinion of the European Commission. Later this month, the federal court in Germany will pronounce as scheduled on the federal German gambling legislation's legality.
